Two stations, one family. WPEX 90.9 FM was the hometown signal. Tater Patch Radio carried the music around the globe. Both are off the air now, and this is where their story is kept.

Two stations that shared a microphone

One lived on the FM dial in the Virginia countryside. The other lived on the internet and sounded like it came from everywhere.

WPEX 90.9 FM

1992 to 2021

WPEX was the local radio station for Southside Virginia, licensed to Kenbridge and reaching eastern Lunenburg County and northwestern Brunswick County. It played a friendly mix of music, including Christian contemporary for a time, and carried local sports, the kind of coverage a hometown station is made for.

In its later years WPEX was also an affiliate of Tater Patch Radio, sharing shows and voices with the online station.

Tater Patch Radio

2010 to 2025

Tater Patch Radio was founded by Bobby Huff of Crewe and ran for fifteen years under one promise: just good music. Volunteer DJs signed on from Virginia, North Carolina, England and Ireland, and each brought a show with its own personality.

Oldies, soul, country, rock, blues, gospel and plenty of requests and dedications. It felt like a small-town station that happened to have listeners on both sides of the Atlantic.
